Welcome to The Americanologist -
If it seems that the public narratives surrounding the issues in our nation have recently taken a dark turn, be assured that there are many who will resist the tide of negativity and ahistorical commentary which is promoted across a broad media spectrum. During an earlier time of national crisis, Carl Schurz, a German immigrant who became an abolitionist Republican from Wisconsin and was on the committee in 1860 that delivered news to Abraham Lincoln of his nomination, followed that commitment up by leading a union division in the XI corps in three of the great battles of 1863 that turned the tide of the war. Schurz would say later in response to debate on American policy after the Civil War: “ My country, right or wrong, if right, to be kept right, and if wrong, to be made right.”
The study of American history requires the application of a critical analysis, not a cynical narrative devoid of context and powered by personal biases and modern methodologies designed to deconstruct national unity. I welcome you to this site, where I hope to provide you with interesting and thoughtful historical, cultural, and political content on the America we love.
